Greetings and Salutations AAV Members!

Don’t forget to register for this year’s conference taking place in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona. We have a fantastic program for technicians and veterinarians alike. The education committee has again been hard at work putting together more useful topics and tools for everyone. Check out the newly updated species-specific bird information sheets—now in an easy-to-print format. These are great to send home with the new bird client or those that are looking for a little information on a certain species. We have covered all the major species ranging from budgies and canaries to macaws and Amazon parrots.

On online forums we so frequently see cries for advice regarding avian reproductive issues. Please don’t forget the GOLD you have available right at your fingertips from AAV. Check out the new REPRODUCTIVE DISEASE GOLDEN EGG. This is included with your membership and is a database covering so many common topics in avian medicine. Here you will find HOW-TO videos, pictures, journals, conference proceedings, donated presentations, client education handouts, and so much more regarding the subject of interest. Other topics include orthopedics, anesthesia and analgesia, feather destructive behavior to mention a few.

AAV’s popular Pet Bird Care Series has a brand-new design! This series includes 12 handouts on common pet bird species—from budgies to macaws—each featuring a bright, colorful layout in a convenient double-sided information sheet format. These updated species-specific handouts provide practical care information that bird owners can trust.

In addition to this series now publicly available on the Bird Owner Resources page, AAV offers many other helpful handouts and videos to share with your clients on topics such as foraging, diet conversion, senior bird care, and more. We encourage you to add a link from your clinic website to the Bird Owner Resources page—a great way to share these handouts and provide clients with information on avian health and wellness.

All redesigned species handouts are available in two convenient places: the AAV Publications Library (for members) and the Bird Owner Resources page for the general public.

Within this resource, you will find a wide selection of journal and conference proceedings, articles on this topic, as well as a collection of surgical management images, an egg binding diagnosis and treatment guide, and tips for triaging the dystocia patient.

 

Veterinarians will discover a wealth of valuable resources, including treatment protocols, case studies, supply lists, and a comprehensive guide to the use of GnRH agonists in avian patients. A step-by-step video tutorial demonstrates the proper placement of deslorelin implants in birds. New Handout on Healthy Avian Diets

This handout by Dr. Scott Echols is intended to serve only as a guide of possible food choices for commonly kept parrots. Diet should be adjusted for species variation, health status, breeding status, climate conditions, and physical activity. The handout is available in the AAV Publications Library for member download.
