This year’s annual conference in family-friendly Atlanta promises to be one of our most exciting yet. The conference will be held jointly with AEMV and ARAV so you can learn about all of your favorite exotic animal patients. We are extremely fortunate to have secured Professor Frans de Waal as our keynote speaker; he is an award winning researcher and author whose areas of research are animal emotions and empathy.
There are many hot topics talks such as an update on the ABV vaccine, new analgesic and anti-fungal use in birds and experimental techniques to try to treat ruptured air sacs. There are also many valuable master classes on popular topics such as minimizing fear during the avian veterinary visit, avian endocrinology, and raptor medicine.
For hands on training, Dr. Stephen Divers is presenting a coelioscopy lab, Dr. Julia Ponder is presenting on orthopedic management of the pelvic limb, Dr. Laurie Degernes is presenting on anesthesia and emergency support and Melody Hennigh has a workshop on low-stress avian handling techniques. Our amazing team of Drs. Speer and Echols is presenting a never-before-offered all-day lab on surgery of the respiratory, GI and reproductive tracts of birds. This lab was available for AAV member pre-registration in March and is currently full. A few additional seats may be available when registration opens later this month. Make sure to register early for all of our hands-on labs as these fill quickly!
On Saturday, for the early birds, there will be an exciting session on new imaging techniques presented by Scott Echols as well as a full day of wellness topics presented jointly by all three organizations. And, as always, there will be many opportunities to network and socialize with your fellow bird loving veterinarians. We can’t wait to see you all in Atlanta!
