AAV RESEARCH GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT
2013-2014
Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) Research Grant Funding Available
Preproposals for research projects addressing clinical aspects of exotic and wild birds, including diagnostic tests, drug pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, practice management, and avian conservation, are now being accepted for consideration for funding by the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV). Grants are limited to $10,000.00 US for individual projects.
The full project, or portion of the project for which funding is requested, must be completed within one (1) calendar year upon acceptance.
Costs such as travel expenses, publication costs, investigator or assistant salaries, major equipment purchases, and overhead shall not be funded by the AAV.
All prospective research studies funded by the AAV must receive full approval by the facility’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or equivalent research review entity. If IACUC (or equivalent) approval is pending at the time of full proposal submission to the AAV, proof of subsequent complete approval must be made available to the AAV before funds can be released for the research project.
Although not a mandatory requirement for funding, selected investigators are strongly encouraged to publish their results in the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery (JAMS) and/or submit presentation proposals for the annual conference of the AAV. Selected investigators will be required to provide a written research updateto the AAV at the end of the first calendar year from funding, and to submit a final research summary suitable for publication in JAMS and presentation on the AAV research website once the project is completed.
Completed preproposals (one page form only) must be received by January 15, 2013. Final proposals, upon invitation only, must be received by May 6, 2013. Recipient(s) will be notified by June 1, 2013. Grants will be announced at the AAV 34th Annual Conference and Expo in Jacksonville, Florida on August 4, 2013.

The preproposal must be limited to one standard 8.5” x 11” page with 1” margins and a minimum font size of 10 points. Preproposals exceeding one printed page or using smaller font will not be accepted for consideration.
The following information must appear on the preproposal page:
Title of Research Project
Principal Investigator (name, degrees, title, department, institution, mailing address, phone number, fax number, and email address)
Co-Investigator(s) (name, degrees, and title, department, and institution)
Duration of Project (funding will only be provided for one (1) calendar year for a project)
Estimated Budget* (not to exceed $10,000 US)
